How to connect DVD Player to TV/DVR?

I'm trying to connect a new DVD Player to my current TV, which is already connected to a Verizon DVR.  TV is a Samsung UN32EH4003, DVD Player is LG DP122, DVR is Motorola 7216.  All slots on the back of the TV and DVR currently have cables plugged into them, I don't know what to take out or move around to add the DVD player in there.  I have looked at the wiring diagrams on Verizon's website, they do not have the information/diagram I need, and I have been unable to find any answers from Samsung or LG either.

Based on the equipment you mentioned:

  • Connect an HDMI cable from the DVR to one HDMI input on your TV.
  • Connect component cables from the DVD player to the component input on your TV.  You will also need to connect the audio cables.

Your TV should have 2 HDMI inputs and a component input.  The 7216 has an HDMI and component output. (+ other outputs)  So unless you have a lot of other equipment connected, all the slots on the TV and DVR should not have something plugged into them.  If you do have other devices that you are trying to connect to your TV, there are options available. Provide the additional equipment details and someone here will be able to help.

Right now, there are five RCA cables running from the DVR/STB to the TV (two for L and R audio, three for video).  There is no place to plug in the RCA cables from the DVD Player into the TV.  You are saying to disconnect the RCA cables going from the DVR to the TV and connect the two with an HDMI cable instead?  And then connect the DVD Player to the TV with the RCA cables?  Just FYI, the DVD only has one video slot (not three like the TV and DVR).

FYI the STB will not pass through any other signal, so trying to connect your player to it and then pass the signal to the TV is not an option.

If you can describe what equipment is plugged in where and the model of your TV, someone might be able to give you some specific advice.

You need 2 connections:  STB to TV  and DVD to TV

  • DVD to TV:   Unplug the 5 cables from the STB and plug them into your DVD player.  With your model of DVD player that is the only way you can make it work.
  • STB to TV:  Get an HDMI cable and connect the STB to the TV with it.  The DVD player is using the component input to your TV so you must use HDMI to connect the STB.

You will then have 5 cables running from the DVD player to the TV.

You will have one cable running from the STB to the TV.

With your equipment that is the only way you can make it work.
