How to record specific team with FIOS.

I just reccently switched from DTV to FIOS.  I have the Center Ice package but I can't figure out how to record hockey games featuring only the Edmonton Oilers.  If I search for specific games, I can only create a series recording but it is for that specific channel which is useless or I can only get that particular game but I can't pad the reording (hockey games are ususally longer than the 2.5 hr block in the guide).

Any advice?

currently the guide verizon offers does not offer a way to create a series for a certain team.  It would be cool if it did though.

basically you will just have to do manual recordings for the time and channel your game is on, and adjust the end times.

You can extend the Recording Time on Individual Shows without creating a manual recording or a series.

Create the Recording from the Guide.

Pull up your Scheduled Recordings from the DVR Menu

Select the Show from the Schedule

You will be able to extend the end time up to 2 hours.

This has to be done for each show that you want to extend but it works.

That is definitely a nice feature of the TiVo and DirecTV DVRs, but it is not yet available on Verizon's own DVRs.   To be fair to Verizon, I'm not aware of any cable provider that offers that feature on their own DVRs.

On my TivoHD with FiOS, I have separate series recordings for all of my favorite pro and college sports teams.   Every new game is recorded -- so long as it doesn't conflict with programs I've given higher priority -- with 30 minutes of padding, regardless of date, time, and channel...without any repeats or duplicates.  All games are organized into a single folder with the team name; inside the folder, I see who they are playing, the date of the game, and the source channel.

I only to set the padding once for a team, and then all games are padded as specified.  See below:

You can either wait for Verizon to add this feature, or you can buy a TivoHD@ ($250 @ Amazon).  The TivoHD requires a $12.99/mo, $129/yr, or $399 lifetime subscription, plus one M-CARD ($3.99/mo) from Verizon.  The TivoHD replaces the Verizon box; it supports all FiOS channels but it does it does not support FiOS' VOD.

I believe the manual program end time function described only works BEFORE the program has begun. I haven't found a way to extend a single recording's end time while watching it.

So let's say I'm recording and watching a game and it's going to overtime, there's no way for me to pad the end time to account for the OT.  This is incredibly frustrating, btw.

One can change a series end time, but I'm not yet sure if this works for the show that's happening live.

You will not be able to extend the time of a current recording.

Only solution that I have come up with is to schedule the next show in the guide and extend its time.

This worked the same way when I had a Comcast DVR and with an older ReplayTV.

Not the only option.  You could also schedule a manual recording to start at the end of the current recording for whatever additional time you feel the event will run over.

I agree that at present you can't just extend a recording once it has started.

Actually, the Cox Cable DVR with Passport Software lets you record a "Key Word", like "Edmonton Oilers" or "Tom Cruise" or "World War II" and all matching shows with those "key words" in the description.  It would work just like any other series recording, letting you extend the recording time if desired.

Passport was actually pretty good.

It would also allow you to "protect" a one time recording before it records (from the Scheduled Recording list).
