I just upgraded my T.V. package

This is a cut and paste from my account. Just what do I have here?

  Current Subscription   Title Description Category

Extreme HD . Basic Programming

Video on Demand Service . International Programming

Movie/HBO/Cinemax All Access Package . Premier Programming

Cinemax On Demand . VOD

Encore On Demand . VOD

HBO On Demand . VOD

Showtime On Demand . VOD

Starz! On Demand . VOD

Sundance On Demand . VOD

TMC On Demand . VOD

I suppose the HBO/Cinemax all access package means I get all the HBO/Cinemax channels

But what does the VOD mean with the other channels? HBO on demand, Starz on demand, etc. etc. all VOD, I suppose that is a movie rental thing?

Yes, that is just stating that you can access premium VOD packages.  They are included with the corresponding premium package.

Movie/HBO/Cinemax means you have all the movie channels.

It appears you have all of the premium subscription movie services (Starz, Encore, Showtime, The Movie Channel, HBO and Cinemax).  When you subscribe to these you also get the VOD content that the subscription services provide at no additional charge.

VOD aka Video on Demand.  When you subscribe to the above packages you get access to the channel's video on demand service, it comes with it and they are free to watch.  They usually update their movies/shows/etc monthly.  Again, all of the shows they offer are free and you can watch them when you want as long as it is available to watch.  And you are correct, it is kind of like a movie rental cept you don't pay hehe.

Example, my wife likes to watch the show Weeds on Showtime.  Well if she misses an episode they usually have that episode, and all the previous ones, up to watch within 24 hours of the airing of the new show.  So whenever she wants to watch one of those shows, she can whenever she wants without worrying about a fee.

Now don't get me wrong, there are other video on demand items that do cost money but they aren't in the subscription package - and those you would have to pay for but you would get prompted about it before hand.  As long as you go into your subscription's folder and choose, say HBO, all those will be free.

DzWR,

Thanks, that was a really good explanation. I particularly like the Weeds example because I love that show also. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

I know this is a semi-old thread but I have the HBO, Cinemax, and Movie Package deal.   And of course Verizon forgets to activate the VOD part of it.  I mean I can watch HBO and all the other stations but only the channels not the VOD part.  So I decided hey I'll just talk to them through the "live chat" thing, and here's the log:

Welcome to Verizon Live Chat. You have selected to chat about:
TN: ########
Subject: FiOS Television
Question: Premium VOD says I need to be subscribed even though I am subscribed to hbo, cinemax and the movie package.
16:33:31 A Verizon eCenter Representative will be with you shortly. Thank you.
16:33:31 This session is being transferred.
16:35:11 This session is transfered to Hulen.
16:35:11 Agent Hulen has joined.
Hulen: Hello, please confirm the physical address on the FIOS account.
ME: okay sure
ME: its ######
Hulen: Is ##### the best number to reach you if needed?
ME: yes
Hulen: Thank you for confirming the information. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this difficulty with On Demand -- let me pull up your circuit and we'll see what I can do towards getting the matter resolved for you. just a moment, please.
ME: okay sure
Hulen: When did you last use On Demand for either of the listed channels
ME: about 10 mins ago
Hulen: So it worked 10 minutes ago and now its no longer working?
ME: no I meant that I tried on demand for HBO and it said that whole "You are not subscribed to this package" thing, It has actually never worked for premium channels
Hulen: I do not see any of those On Demands on your subscription. The most recent order is dated today.
ME: yeah i just signed up for the hbo, cinemax and the movie package 2 days ago, and I checked and it said its 100% complete and the hbo regular channel and cinemax and all those work its just that the on demand part doesnt
Hulen: The order does not have any of those On Demands on your subscription.
ME: how do you add on demand then? I thought it came with the subscriptions
Hulen: You have reached FIOS Technical Support and not Ordering. Your issue may be handled by the After Hours Video group at 800-553-0228. Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
ME: okay sorry, no thats all thanks for the information
Hulen: ok have a good evening

End of session

So what the heck?!?

And why is it so hard for verizon to active VOD service along with the premium channels?!?

Sorry but I had to vent.  Also please tell Hulen to re-read the verizon procedure manual!!!

Sorry to hear about your experience with Verizon. I think they are so large that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. I cant count the time I've had to spend on the phone with this company to resolve issues.

Although most of my issues have been resolved there is still one that they claim they have no idea about. When I access my monthly bill online there is a box that indicates what the total monthly bill is with a red button next to it that says "pay". When I go through this process and click on the button that says "pay" it brings me to a page that shows my credit card info and I just click on "use this card" and it indicates that the bill has been paid. I even get an e-mail indicating that I've paid my bill. The problem? the amount that they indicated was my total bill is always a couple of dollars short of the REAL total, so next month I get to pay a $5 late payment fee because I didn't pay the total bill. Even though the number in the monthly bill box was provided by them, they populated the box automatically, it is always short a couple of bucks which causes a $5 late charge next month. Pretty clever huh? I have to wonder how much money they make on that scam.

I've talked with "customer service" and their "tech" people and nobody can explain why this happens, I can... crooked business.
