Issues(?) - 16-Yr DirecTv user now on FiOS

Been with DirecTv since '95.  Hace been "Cutting Edge" (CE) beta tester since 2001.

Moved from TX to MA, and from DirecTv to FiOS Triple Play.  Lots of things are better, some are worse - but maybe it's the user?

Release 1.9, Build 12.36

1. Multi-room works great! - Only complaint is no Skip Ahead or Jump Back, only FF and FR.

2. Some things from the "Series Manager" do not record and there's no explanation in history.  For example, Blue Bloods was in series manager, Priority 2.  CSI NY @ lower priority did record, Blue Bloods did not.

3. I have NASCAR Sprint Cup in priority 3, yet when I browsed the guide today (race is in 3 hours), there was no record icon in the listing.  I pressed "R" and set it to manually record.

4.  With D*, I could filter the Guide listing on Sports + Football and see all upcoming football-related listings.  How can I do that with FiOS?

Thanks!

I am glad that you have made the switch over to FIOS! I have answers to your questions below...

You can filter your channels by pressing the right arrow button.

The shows not recording you have to check to see if its set to new only or new/repeats. Also need to check if its set to record a certain time, all times, certain channel, or all channels

For functionality you want to see added to the FIOS service, please visit the Verizon Idea Exchange. Please search on the idea exchange and cast your vote. There may be another member who made the same suggestion. If not, please add a new idea so your fellow community members can comment and vote on your suggestion. http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-Idea-Exchange/ct-p/ideaexchange . The Verizon Idea Exchange is there for you to submit your ideas and suggestions to Verizon so that we can consider them as we innovate our products and services.

1. You most certainly can skip / jumpback on the DVR and on the multiroom.   On the DVR it's instantaneous (you can set the amount of skip / jumpback in the settings menu).  On mutliroom from the remote there is a little bit of lag - I'm assuming for the signal to be relayed to DVR and the stream to play out the existing buffer.  On my remove, they're right about the the FF/FR keys.

2. Only thing I can think of here is that you have the series marked for "First Run" only and they are not noted in the guide as such.  This is a notorious problem with the guide provider to FiOS (there's a topic on this in the "ideas" section) and a strong wish for FiOS to get a better and more accurate provider.   Solution here is to set the series to record all episodes and just delete the ones you don't want (works pretty well unless the channel you're recording also happens to occasionally have all day marathon runs of past seasons).

3. Are you sure you didn't set it to record the HD channel, but looked at the SD channel on the guide?  (I make this mistake all the time particularly when setting up a new series -- sometimes I end up setting it up to record the SD channel and then later go back to look and see that's it's not set to record -- but I'm looking at the HD channel in the guide).   Use the DVR menu and go into the "Scheduled Recordings" section to see what it's planning to record/when.

4.Anthony hit on how to filter out by general categories.   But these are pretty generic categories and you can't get down to a specific type show (like just football) like to can on D* / Tivo.   It might however be sufficient for what you're looking for however.

Thanks, guys-

For the DVR not recording if scheduled from a search - I validated and posted a separate post (and called tech supt).

My search problems/concerns continue...   for instance, why when I search on either "NFL" or "Football" and look at the "NFL Football" response - I do not find the Cowboys/Patriots game listed??, nor does the Sunday Night game.  (The "Sunday Night Football" does show up as it's own search, but not included in the "NFL Football" - WHY?

Yeah, it's a wish thing...  but still...

One more thing - Does FiOS have any screen saving capability?

I' ve been out of country for couple of weeks and when I came back, I've noticed that discussion about rollout of IMG 1.9 gone now from the forums. But in Massachusetts we still using 1.8 and there is no word when our VHO will be  upgraded. Why 1.9 discussion gone from the forums? Any clues? It seems to me that Verizon no longer wants highlight slow and painfull process of upgrade that took so long...

How did you get Release 1.9 in MA? I also live in metro Boston area, but no signs of 1.9 release so far - not even e-mail advising that 1.9 is coming in our  area. May be you got your 1.9 while being in TX and you brought upgraded DVR to MA?

Thanks

I was on Satellite since 2000, between Dish and DirecTV, and there are differences but what you can use that we couldn't before is the On Demand library.  Push On Demand > Browse All > Free then all free and scroll down to CBS and you will see Blue Bloods  there.  You can choose HD or SD, and with the CBS shows you can Fast Forward so you can save your DVR for something else.  Can't FFwd Fox, NBC or ABC, and there are others, but it is nice to have.

I received the email last week (Friday I think) regarding the impending upgrade to IMG 1.9, and when I go to the TV "Search" menu from the remote there is a small headline at the top that says some new thing is on the way. So, the upgrade here in the People's Republic of RI appears imminent (same VHO as MA).  Just FYI, when I looked this last weekend for the Cowboys/Patriots game the guide did not have it listed here either, but showed Saints/Bucs. Even once the game had started, it still displayed erroneous information. This is not uncommon as the provider of guide information to FIOS has been criticized strongly on these forums. As the original poster noted, it takes a while to adjust from the capabilities of one entertainment provider, such as the satellite people, to a different one like FIOS. As a previous Dish customer, I have been with FIOS 3+ years and am well satisfied, but do miss some things that Dish could do. It has been noted that FIOS is relatively young and will no doubt develop more abilities as the technology continues to evolve.

I did not get any e-mail or messages regarding upgrades to 1.9 so far. So, it still maybe not days but weeks away. What I do not understand why Verizon removed IMG 1.9 discussions from forum? Mmaybe they are sick and tired to hear complaints from customers? Or maybe they no longer interested to hear customers opinions (both positive and negative) altogether?  Either way it's not smart and it does not do any good to Verizon PR. The 1.9. rollout itself is so painfully slow, that, in my view, makes Verizon  IMG implementation team look very unprofessional. Yes, FIOS is young, but making youth as an excuse to be behind technologicaly of satellite TV providers is not very smart policy...

I also noticed the disappearance of the dedicated 1.9 forum and wondered as to why. Judging by the sheer number of forum posts, there certainly seems to be adequate reason for further discussion about 1.9, both pro and con. And, one would hope, that future iterations of software are already in the works with evolutionary improvements based on this feedback. Afterall, you have to get the basics right before you can provide the flash high-tech features that some other providers do, and that some on these forums would eventually like to be able to enjoy as well.  ( I really miss side-by-side PIP during football season).
