Let's Take to the Local Papers.

I'm a former Comcast customer and couldn't wait until the contract with them was up. I was so eager to get FiOS. I never thought any company would actually be worse than Comcast but here I am now waiting for this contract to be up. Yes FiOS has many more HD channels and a really nice signal. But their Motoral boxes are crap. The guide is an absolute joke and tech support is worthless; they seem like they get two weeks of training and have absolutely no previous experience. A week after install I realized a had a faulty 7216. It took months and 4 different box exchanges to finally get one that works; a 6416 instead. Then because of all of the box exchanges we were getting charged for equipment we didn't have. Have you ever felt like David taking on Goliath when it comes to Verizon. It seems so many complaints on here are never even looked at or taken into consideration. I'd have better luck talking to a wall than to Verizon. Needless to say I had to go all the way up to the Delaware Cable Commision and have them represent me to finally take care of the billing issue with Verizon.

FiOS is new in my area and still being rolled out. Many people are tired of Comcast and eager to change to something new. But I'm ready to write the op-ed sections of the local newspapers and tell potential customers to think twice before locking into a contract with Verizon. If I can convince even one person to stay away from Verizon that's a start. Perhaps if we all started to write our local papers the higher ups would finally start to listen.

Oh and I swear that browsing the internet is slower than it was with Comcast. Yes download speeds are higher, but when it comes to browsing it seems that Verizon's DNS servers are junk. Have you ever noticed how long it takes for your browser to resolve an address or is it just me?

What was the original issue you had with the STB's?  Did you have HDMI handshake issues? If he just got DVR's with faulty harddrives that's just plain bad luck, but technology is technology.  If you are unhappy with our STB's there are alternative methods that use CableCards, such as TiVo or Moxi. You can expect improvements as we update the software on our STB's in the near future.

As far as a DNS goes, if you are not satistfied with the Verizon DNS servers, I can suggest using the OPENDNS servers.  I personally use this and find it better no matter where I take my laptop. www.opendns.com

{please keep your posts courteous} So you're basically telling me that I should resort to other service providers because Verizon cannot accomodate me.

Thanks.

Actually thats not what he said at all. He was giving you many other options that are available via your VERIZON provider.

Tivo and Moxi are DVR's that have had many more years of experiance with dvr technology than verizon so many people feel that they are superior. and they work fine on Verizon. If you dont like or your having problems with the Verizon provided equipment, there are options where you dont have to use their equipment. Use what you want.

Cable cards are another technology with Verizon that will allow CC ready devices to use the Verizon signal without the need of a cable box.

You also have to take these message boards with a BIG grain of salt. These boards for the most part only have the people that are having issues or wish to complain. What you dont see are the Thousands and Thousands of people that are completely thrilled with Verizon. Consumer reports lists Verizon as the TOP provider in almost all categories. So there must be a lot of people out there that have no issues and love Verizon. The problem is that we just dont see many of them here as they have no reason to visit this site.

As for the people that you deal with on the phone. I know that they get lots of training and the tests they have to take to even get the job are hard enough that they actually have a hard time finding enough people to fill the positions a lot of the time. Having said that you also have to realize that you are dealing with people. How many time have you gone down to any store and thought, Just how dumb is the person behind the counter. I've met CEO's of companies that couldnt hit the ground with their hat if asked to. So its the luck of the draw when you call ANYONE as to if you get someone who knows what they are doing or not. I think for the most part the tech people at Verizon are great. There is always an exception but for the most part its good.
