Letterbox Bars suddenly appearing on top of bottom of HD channels

Just got back from vacation yesterday & suddenly, all of my HD content (live and recorded) is appearing with black bars at the top and bottom of my screen.  I have a standard HD tv (Panasonic TH-50PX60U) and up until yesterday, HD content filled the sceen.  I went through the various FIOS menus, to confirm HD, 16:9, 1080i - nothing jumped out as being wrong.  Likewise, I went through the TV's aspect menus and have the problem whether in "Full" or "Just."  While I can "Zoom," that doesn't give the resolution I want.  I have rebooted the STB and unplugged/replugged the S-Video cable.

Only thing that has changed is that when I got back from vacation, I had to reset the battery bacukp unit, as it was beeping.

What am I missing?

Thank You!

Try the Fix FIOS TV Issues if you haven't already.

If that doesn't fix it, contact tech support. Based on the checks you've already done, it sounds like you will need them.

If you have the capibility, try streaming HD to your TV.  If it works, that will prove it's a FIOS issue.

Thanks for the reply.  I switched from s-video to component and it's working again.  Not sure why it used to work with s-video before... but I'm up and running now, which is all that matters!

Good news.  And component is better than S-video anyway.

If you were using s-video (versus compnent) you were only getting a down converted (SD) version of the HD channels.  Only component and HDMI carry an HD signal.  So the settings you had in the STB (which I believe you confirmed in one of your earlier posts) did not impact the SD output at all.  That's why they are now applicable to an HD connection.
