Can anyone confirm the routine availability of M (multi stream) cable cards in N. Texas as of yet?

While on the subject, MCARDs are also available in:

Delaware
Portland, OR
Seattle, WA
Long Island, NY
Washington Metro (N. VA / Maryland)

These are the areas with multiple confirmed reports of availability in the past 30 days.

Does Verizon offer self-install option for the cablecard? or requires a visit from tech? if so how much do they charge for visit?

Verizon does not offer a self-install option for a CableCard.  Verizon will not mail you a CableCard to install and activate yourself.

To some representatives, it looks like they can submit an order to ship a CableCard, as they do STBs and DVRs, but the order will never complete.  You'll be waiting forever, because all CableCard orders without an installation appointment are automatically canceled by the system.  The only way to get a CableCard with FiOS, at this time, is to schedule a service call.


For a first-time FiOS installation, there is no charge to install a CableCard.  If you have a scheduled service call for a problem, and you get a CableCard installed at the same time, then there is no charge to install a CableCard.   That said, Verizon now charges about $70 (?) for truck rolls when you do not have a problem.  You may or may not get hit with that charge if you schedule a service call for a CableCard installation and nothing else.

Note when ordering CableCards, make it clear that the installation is for an existing TV outlet.  If Verizon thinks you are ordering a new TV outlet with a new run of coax, they will put you down for a outlet installation fee.
