VMS 1100......Did hear from Fios Tech Solutions Dept. last week that a December launch date for this platform was listed. Have to wait and see. Like everyone else I like the newest technology available. Fios dropped the ball on this one. I did hear that the FCC is causing alot of the hold up with the release of this unit, something to do with whole home networking and the use of it.

I think Verizon shouild inform their employees of new inovations that they are working on, Most of the time when you call to ask about a new product, they have no idea what your talking about. How many times have you got the response, "you know more about it than I do", from a Verizon Rep?.  Sad! The only reason I haven't swtiched to Tivo....you loose VOD. Tivo is far more advanced than Motorola products. If Verizon was smart, they would offer Tivo like Comcast does.

Have been a loyal Fios customer since 2008. Had Cox for many years before. Cox has had a 5 tuner whole home dvr out for about 2 years. We are in the age of high tech Smart TV"S.....we need the high tech equipment to go with it.They need to address the video quality of some of tthe channels. Showtime, Food Network, IFC and several others in regards to Macroblocking on these channels. Caused by Mpeg 4 to Mpeg 2 channel compression. These channels tend to checkerbord or break up into squares. AMC had a very bad Macroblocking issue last year but was fixed.

Lets hope for the best. Maybe Santa will bring us our VMS 1100 Media Server!!

Saw this today:

http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-TV-Programming/Six-Tuner-DVR-In-March/m-p/637679#M21098

If any of it is at all true ... bye bye Verizon...waiting until March is not acceptable....and charging an arm and a leg is a non starter...

A few years ago doing a cost analysis between Comcast and FIOs - FIOs was much more economical - today they are about even and you get arguably more from Comcast...and Comcast has a nice TIVO integration....

Yeah I read that post and it's all claims with no links to any substantive evidence.

I really doubt Verizon wants to stay in the tv programming business and probably does not want to even keep it's wireline business either.  Wireless is the lucrative business feeding the current generation of communications and social media connectivity.  Every step and every lack of movement just solidifies my opinion in this matter.

Could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Will need official statements from Verizon and PR releases to believe otherwise.

I spoke with some FIOS install techs at the table next to me at lunch today about the six tuner DVR media server.
They said they been the training on it and that they and other employees are currently testing them at their homes. One guy speculated that they might be released to the public in February 2014. Really want to see how this would integrate with the Xbox One.

As there is only 2 1/2 weeks left in the year and with Christmas and New Years in the middle of this I seriously doubt we will see the VMS solution available to us any time this year.   We would be lucky to get it before March of 2014.

Turning on new service to areas that already have fiber is not expanding the business, that's just using what they already have.

Fact is they are not laying anymore fiber and have been exploring ways to sell off the landline business.

The 6 tuner dvr has NOT been anounced and there is no official flyer or any public advertising for it. This means we are at least 6 months away from anything happening and probably more.

IF they ever release this dvr, it will be rolled out over at least a year, to new customers first in limited areas, and then MAYBE existing customers well after that.  Based on previous history with Verizon and their lack of desire to spend any money on FiOS that could cut their profits from cellular, I doubt you will see anything about this dvr before summer or fall next year and you won't be able to get one until 2015. By then, it will be way out of date and virtually useless with all the new tech coming out before then for streaming and home theater pc.

It doesn't matter who you talked to or where they work or what their position is.  This is a publically traded company that is bound by requirements for how any action is taken and the paperwork required to be filed and the public announcements that have to be made and the time periods those requirements come with.

Not quite true.  THey are still laying fiber to areas to new locations, just not to any for which they haven't previously made agreements to serve.

The 6 tuner was announced, just not an available date.  Some dates were even being mentioned, but were delayed by what the FCC did.  New dates are not announced but serveral people with contacts with Verizon have reported the training and Alpha testing that is currently occuring.
