I just added a 25' section of coax cable in order to move my TV to the other side of my room. Now, the set top box will not start. Do I need to ad a signal booster?

Signal Boosters are normally a no no, can I ask what kind of coax cable you are using? tri or quad shield? rg59 or rg 6 And is the splitter rated 5-1000mhz or better? it likely is, but it's best to check, and also the type of coax should be checked too.
If it's rg6 then 25 feet shouldn't be a problem if the other end is properly connected to the 5-1000mhz splitter.
rg 59 "should" work too, but it's a lower rated cable, and most fios coax runs installed by vz use rg6

you must be using cheap wires with bad connectors.
