I'm not positive (I don't have an SD STB anymore) but you should be able to just hit the DVR button on your remote.
Arrow over to the show you wish to watch and hit ok.

Never had that combo. Does it allow a HD recording to be played on a SD STB, or is it restricted to only SD recordings.

Of course, but if you read the quote I specifically included in my response so there would not be any confusion, TNS_2's question was about viewing HD recordings on the SD STB, and that is the question I answered.

Gotcha. Still doesn't help the OP with his question though.

Try this on your HD DVR (6416):
Menu -- Settings -- System -- DVR -- Multi-Room DVR Settings -- Extend Accessibility
Under that setting you'll see a message that reads, "Press OK to enable access to this DVR from the older model 2500 P1/P2 set top boxes. Then restart each 2500 P1/P2 box to complete the process."
You should be golden after that.
