New FIOS user- questions/observations

Just got FIOS the other day after using Tivo several years ago and then Cox for the last 5 years.  A few things I've noticed/have questions about:

- When rewinding is there a way to skip by 5 or 10 minutes at once?  On Cox you could skip back 15 minutes at a time which is a nice feature.

- The Office is on NBC, TBS and the local CW affiliate and on each of those it is on the HD and standard channels.  I set up a series recording and it is now set to record about 10 episodes per day.  🙂   It looks like I can choose to record one channel or all of them, is that right?  Ideally I'd like to just record the episodes on NBC and TBS but I'm also getting the ones on CW and on the standard channels.  Is there a way to limit this?

- Often I'm watching a sporting event and then have to go somewhere and want to record the rest of it.  When I hit record while watching or go to the guide to record I don't get an option to extend the end time.  It looks like i can do it if I've chosen a series recording or if it's already on the scheduled to record list but can I do this when I choose to record something?

- What's the buffer on FIOS?  On Cox it was 60 minutes, which was great.

Skipping can be done by the next button (just above the ff/rw buttons) and the amount of time skipped can be set in the settings.

As far as I know you can set to record on 1 station or all stations. Not sure if you can set up 2 series recordings for the same show on to 2 different channels, but it might be worth a try.

You can not extend recording time unless it was previously scheduled to record. Only option here is to record the show following.

I believe the buffer is 60 minutes but the buffer will automatically empty when the next show comes on. so if you want to finish a show you paused you better hit the record button while the show is still actively showing.

I  believe the OP is looking for 15 minute skips.  The ones you refer to are settable and good for commercial skip, but not capable of the skip requested.  The "fastest" is to hit rewind or FF 3 times to get the fastest speed.

Actually, the buffer does not clear when it passes the end of the show but continues up to the maximum buffer or when when you first tuned the channel - whchever is shorter - so you can go back to at least part of the previous show.  The buffer length is somewhere between 50 minutes and an hour and both tuners are buffered if you are not recording.

In my experience, the buffer is 60 minutes unless you are recording a show on that channel after the current show is on that you are watching.  That happened to me...even though I wasn't recording anything on the other tuner, the recorder skipped to the beginning of the next show and began recording and erased my buffer and the end of the show I was watching!!!  GRRR  It was ridiculous...i could understand if you are recording on both tuners but when both are idle, it should not start recording on the tuner you are watching and erase your buffer.  I don't understand why it does that anyway...my DTV never did that!!!  Just another thing wrong with FIOS...
