I recently had the same problem it took using batteries that one would use in high-tech devices to resolve the problem.

Moffett, it's interesting that changing the contrast setting should impact the remote operation. Back when I had the Samsung model 850, I discovered a similar change from "vivid" to "standard" (or something similar - can't remember the exact term they use) produced satisfactory results as well. Seems to lend a little credence to the IR jamming theory. Good luck.

Turn off energy managment in your tv's menu

mine works fine now since I turned off energy management

I have a phillips LCD 46".   After playing with all the picture quality settings, I was able to restore the use of the remote.  One setting on the TV was "Active Control" under picture settings.  It gave three options;On with light sensor, On without light sensor and Off.  I turned it off and resolved the issue.   Thanks

digital breakup in the picture (pixelization) is caused by coax cable issues.  Re-seating all coax connections usually fixes this.  Sometimes a coax end, or the cable itself, may be bad and needs replacing.
