I called verizon today to replace a remote. I could not find the automated option in the Verizon TV menu which I used the last time.
So finally had to speak with someone in support and turns out that Verizon will not replace your remote for free as of a few days ago. Now you have to order a new remote from their equipment menu.
The agent was nice enough to order the remote for me and I am to call to get it removed from my next bill. However from now on, no free replacements after 90 days of equipment installation.

I noticed that I could only get free replacement remotes up to two times. And that's pretty pathetic since I live in a home that has 5 television sets all using verizon remotes. And we've been with Verizon for about 8 years now so you'd think they would give us 2 remotes free per set top box, but nope. So I'm currently usign a remote with tape holding the back of it together as I refuse to pay the price of $50.00 for a friggin remote.

Have you actually tried getting one using the STB menu? Where did your $50 for one remote come from? The Verizon store sells the two button for $14.99 and the four button for $17.99.

ebay is the place to get a new remote. They are cheap on there.
I personally use a Logitech Harmony 650 remote since I have a lot of devices and Verizon's 4 device remote is outdated with codes.

My remote stopped working suddenly. Changed the batteries and nothing. I went to the Verizon store to exchange it and was told that I would have to pay for a new one. I would like to know why I never received any notices in regards to this change in policy? At almost $2,000 a year, why can't they exchange a remote? Are they that desperate for money? When I had Time Warner I was never charged to exchange a remote, cable box, modem , etc. Since, my plan expires next week, I guess I'm going to have a make a decision on whether I want to stay with Verizon or switch to Time Warner or Dish.

I posted this in another thread, but not this one. You can still get a free remote under most circumstances.
Go into your dvr/stb menu, go down to customer support, go over to replace/program remote. Follow the prompts and if you qualify they will send you one at no charge.
The reason why Verizon wants to make you pay is because they give you the remote and dont want it back. It becomes your property unlike other providers where they want it back and isnt your property.

Not a customer friendly policy and needless to say I was quite dissapointed that shipping would take 5 to 7 business days.I was told I could expeddite the shipping by paying additional.Really?????
After a 40 minute chat session that went nowhere i called Verizon and expressed my disdain for this policy.Csr agreed to waive expedited shipping fee.Still not happy as there is no good reason to put a so called "valuable" customer through such an ordeal.

I was just "speaking" with customer service about replacing the remotes. I have the older versions for three set top boxes. To access AccuWeather, you need to hit the FIOS button. My remotes do not have that feature. I would have to pay for the replacements (ok, I would get credit for one). I didn't decide to cancel the Weather Channel, but now to access it's replacement I have to pay for new remotes?

You could aslo use the widget button to access the Accuweather widget.
The FIOS button is only needed as a shortcut if you first went to channel 49.
