what do the various symbols mean in the on demand listings? i can figure out the HD logo, and "NEW" is self-evident, but what does the "yield sign" symbol mean which shows up for some adult offerings?

The Yield symbol shows up for many titles, not just adult. I think, but I'm not sure, it means the title is about to expire in the On Demand listings.

That listing only shows what symbols mean in the guide, not for On Demand
