They were trying both to add lots of new features, and believe it or not respond to problems that those with various color vision problems were reporting.
I cannot stand the new guide. When you're searching in the partial guide, it jumps the time as you go down the channel list. If you're looking for something on at 10Pm and it's currently in the 9:30 range, you'll jump back to 9:30 or whatever is on the next channel.
Also, the guide used to have the ability to change to the channel so when you have a child watching and you do not want him to watch other shows, you could setup what he can watch at what time and what channel, automatically. Now, you cannot do that. It is so annoying.
Also, that same problem applies for older people who cannot see the guide due to its smaller lettering and poorer quality color scheme. They need someone to pre-program what they'll watch. It made it a lot easier with the old boxes.
