Program presently unavailable error message

Message 1 of 2
Constantly getting above error message.  Have to go up or down one channel and then back to desired channel several times in order to get picture.  Happens on all channels multiple times a day.  Called tech support and dont believe there is such a problem and never heard of it!  I know others how have had the same problem and called tech support with no resolution.  Presently in the Buffalo/Orchard Park area.

Hello Norm. Welcome to the forums - this is a great place for people who have experienced problems to help others who are new to them. You do not mention how you have your equipment rigged, nor your specific models of equipment, so here are some general things to try. This message is often caused by HDMI handshake irregularities where the TV and STB don't communicate. Some TVs are quite susceptible to this (Samsung for instance). The reasons are many and have been discussed elsewhere in the forum - you may want to review these later. For now, just be aware that HDMI protocols are an evolving process which has been affected by engineering, TV manufacturers, Jack Valenti in Hollywood, and even science.  Here are two things to try: switch to component cables (3-wire red/green/blue), or do periodic hard reboots (unplug from the electrical outlet on the wall for about thirty seconds and replug). I personally reboot every third day on a strict routine. It mostly works. A promised firmware update in the near future is hoping to rectify this. Until then, good luck. More info on your kit might help the forum zero in on your troubles. And I do recommend reading the previous posts. I also would like to see this topic become a sticky and dump all these related instances into one large file named "What to do when Currently Unavailable Strikes".  One more thing - sometimes they have to reset your system at the front end by rcycling your external box and router setup. They can do this remotely through the wiring, no service call required.
