QIP 6416 Multi-room DVR Storage upgrade?

Are the USB ports functional for external storage (or any other slots) on the QIP 6416? If not, is the only other option to upgrade and loose all my recorded shows?

The USB ports provide power only.   To save recorded shows, look at this post and associated links:
