QIP 7216 1 DVR

We would like to add an external HD through the port in the front of our cable box, the HD on the box is so small just 2 of our shows take up the whole box after a week of recordings.  Before I go buy a new HD I want to make sure the port isn't disabled, we have the Home Media DVR - High Definition package with our FiOS dvr already.

Upon connecting the HD will it delete all the information already on there or just add to the room that's available for DVR recording?   Is there a limit to the HD space it will use?

Verizon's current DVRs do not support any form of storage expansion.  You are limited to the built-in capacity, which cannot be upgraded.   Verizon is expected to allow storage expansion with a new DVR coming in 6-9 months.

If you want storage expansion on FiOS today, then you have to buy your own DVR, such as a TivoHD or Moxi.  My TivoHD has capacity for about 180 HD hours.  More information here.
