QIP6416 and HDMI connection to Panasonic TV

Hi there, A couple of nights ago we suddenly heard voices in our family room and upon investigation, found that the TV was on... quite strange - but low and behold when I investigated in the morning we had been upgraded to Release 1.7 on our QIP6416 STB! I was hoping that we would now be able to use an HDMI cable to connect our TV and QIP6416 STB - but apparently not. Is there a way to use HDMI on the QIP6416 to a Panasonic TV - or do I have to continue to use the component leads? The ports on the TV are live as we have a DVD player connected that way. Thanks in anticipation. Allan

I'm not sure what your particular problem is, but there is not a widespread problem with Panasonic TVs.  I've had my 6416 hooked up to my Panny plasma for over a year via HDMI and it works fine all of the time.  One or the other of your components has a specific problem.  Not a systemic one.

 

Have not yet received IMG 1.7 yet, however.  I wonder when THAT is coming to Northern Virginia?

I couldn't determine from your description if you have tried this, but does your Pana TV have the latest software updates? HDMI handshake problems are near epidemic (just Google it), and not entirely the fault of Verizon but more attributable to the Hollywood-driven HDCP protocol. HDMI is an engineering challenge, but manufacturers everywhere keep working at it, which is why it's important to keep up to date on the software for your devices.
