What is the difference between STB models QIP7232 and QIP7216? Are they both DVD's? Do they use the same remote?

1) They are both Motorola DVRs (not DVDs).

2) They use the same remote (any Verizon remote will work with any Verizon STB).

3) The 7216 has a 160 GB hard drive, the 7232 has a 500 GB hard drive.

4) Both support attachment of an external eSATA hard drive.

5) I believe the 7232 has a faster processor.

6) The 7216 is a silver box, the 7232 is black.

7) It will probably cost you a one time charge of $50 to get a 7232, nothing to get a 7216.

😎 Both run the same software level and provide the same functions.

I think that pretty much covers it, although I may have missed a few differences or similarities. You can go to Verizon's website and find the guides for the various STBs that Verizon offers. You should also be able to go to Motorola's website and find the spec sheets if you are really interested in the details.

I currently have the QIP 6416, multi room DVR and would like to upgrade to the 7232 to increase my storage capacity.  Can the latter replace the former, or do I have to change my service in some way? Also, is there a way to preserve or transfer what is stored on my 6416 (recorded programs and scheduled programs), or will I lose everything and have to start over?

The answers to your questions are yes and no. Yes you can change the boxes without any change in your service (outside of the one time DVR box upgrade charge). But, you will lose all your recordings on the 6416, there is no way to transfer recordings from one to the other.

My QIP7216 fan is really loud so VZN sent me a replacement, which arrived today and is the 7232.   Will the movies that I have purchased still be accessible when I switch out the DVR?  Sorry if that's a dumb question.  (we have 4 other set-top boxes in the house, all of which have been able to access recordings).

Yes.  Purchased movies alway stay on the cloud so yo should be able to see them.
