Do I need to have the 1.9 upgrade to connect an eSata drive to my DVR?

Yes, you need 1.9.
Verizon has certified and supports the WD My Book AV DVR Expander (500GB and 1TB). I've heard of some people using other drives without any problems.
Once you go through the prompts on the TV and press OK, the DVR reboots, is the eSATA drive then activated? I went to recorder status after doing the aforementioned steps and the drive status has not changed. Perhaps I have to format the drive as it was connected to an Apple computer before and repeat steps? Thanks.
I also noticed in the eSata FAQ Verizon has provided that there is no mention of 1.9 being required. Weird. It also says, and I quote:

So is anything in their FAQ correct for the eSata expansion? This seems to run counter to information I have seen on the forums. So I assume that if I am still on 1.8 there's no sense worrying about all of this anyway.
