Record series with MLB Baseball has quit working

I think Verizon has changed something in the guide because I have a series setup to record MLB on Fox Sports Southwest, and two days ago it quit recording the games.

If I go to scheduled recordings they do not show up, if I go to the guide for the next day and try to record it manually the dvr says this series is already scheduled, but there is no record or folder icon.

I had to cancel the series and go through the guide and manually pick the next few games, and they are being listed in the scheduled recordings now as "Texas at Baltimore" or wherever they are playing instead of just MLB with a subheading of Texas at Baltimore. But even then it still won't pickup the next couple of "Texas at Baltimore" showings.

What's going on and how does this stuff get titled and scheduled?

From the description you are giving, it sounds like you've run afoul of a rare error in which the DVR believes that it is recording the series when it is not. You can go here to read a previous discussion on this issue.

Possible solutions include:

  1. Entering the scheduled recordings Info window and selecting record from there. -OR-
  2. Deleting every incident of this program being scheduled to record from the Series Manager, the Guide, and the Scheduled Recordings list. Then find the program in the Guide and set up a new Record Series.

It couldn't hurt to run an STB Auto Correct at some point (before, after, both).

Good Luck!

Update:

I just did some searching and I've found postings on this issue going back at least as far as early 2010 and IMG 1.7. Please go here to add your voice and your vote for fixing this issue.

Thanks for the link, but that's not quite my issue. I've done the STB autocorrect a couple of times and tried recreating the series from the guide. The shows aren't being scheduled in the first place. If I go to scheduled recordings they do not show up at all. If I scroll ahead to the next day in the guide there is not any record icons and if I try to setup a new series from that episode it gives me an error that says the series is already scheduled. It's like there's a disconnect between whatever software program checks the schedule and which one actually sets the recording.

Okay, so your complaint is that while you were having an issue with the DVR failing to record your games and refusing to allow you to set them up in the Guide (the essence of the glitch I described), you've already cancelled the series. But now while you are able to set up the recordings individually in the Guide, you still cannot create a new Series recording.

I would search your Manage Series Recordings list again and make sure that there are no other series marked either for any baseball games, or for that channel. Then I would go to that channel in the Guide, find the next game you are trying to record, make sure it is not marked to be recorded, and try the Record Series scheduling again.

I do not have that channel. But I just set up Series Recordings from the Guide and Search for MLB Baseball, and they both worked. Are you trying to say that this channel is no longer listing the Title as MLB Baseball in the Guide, but instead lists only the teams playing? That would be an issue for the channel and the Guide provider (who is expected to be replaced later on this year). Currently you cannot record programs based on content keywords (MLB Baseball). If it does not have the same title, it cannot be set up as a Series. In this case you can notify Verizon and they can notify their Guide provider. But you will have to continue to set up the recordings individually until the listings are changed.

Yes and no. I cancelled all the baseball series and set them up again. I can create the series recording and it will show up in the series manager, but nothing gets scheduled in the guide or scheduled recordings section. And then if I go to a game that should be scheduled and try to record or record series, there will be an error message that says the series is already scheduled.

It still lists in the guide as MLB Baseball, but in the dvr menu the folder will say MLB Baseball, but the individual titles will be the teams playing.

I guess for now I'll do what you said and just cancel the series and manually get the games every week or something and keep trying the series in the meantime.

Another user (mhipsman) suggested to reset your router. It couldn't hurt. There are only two more things I can think of to try. The first one takes a little time and the second will cost you your current recordings.

1.) Since the problem appears to be software related, and doesn't occur in all DVRs, it could be that your software has become corrupted. The solution to this is to have Verizon perform a re-installation of your DVR's software (not sure of the actual name for it). This is a destructive re-write that will delete your settings, but should not affect your recordings. So before you call to request it, make sure that you have saved your settings to the cloud and verify with Verizon that it will not affect your recordings.

The Save Settings function:

Menu > Settings > Save Settings > OK > OK > OK

2.) This second option is to exchange your DVR for another. It should fix the problem as well. But you will lose all of your current recordings. If you choose this option, don't forget to save your settings before sending back your DVR.

I would love to give you another option. But the boards are pretty quiet on this issue. I tried to post it to the Idea Exchange, but apparently my suggestion is in need of a rewrite. Even then the solution may take longer than you are willing to wait.

Best of Luck.
