Recording Options (Record Series w/ Options)

Hi community,

This is our first time having anything Verizon. We switched from Dish Network to Verizon Fios TV Smiley Very Happy

To keep this question simple, can someone please tell me what the following means once you are under the "modify series" option?

Episodes:

  • First-Run and Repeats - Does this mean it will record new episodes and its repeats?
  • First-Run - Does this mean it will ONLY record new episodes?

Dish recording options was easier. No offense Smiley Embarassed

The only thing we care about is:

  • How to record ONLY new episodes of a show (ie. Automatically recording future episodes)
    .What options do we choose do accomplish this?

First run only will not record repeats. Depending on the show, a lot of people choose First-Run and Repeats to eliminate the chance of missed recordings. However, there are shows where that can become problematic because they are broadcast so often. Take South Park for instance. If you set it to record First-Run and Repeats, there's a pretty good chance your DVR will be recording 18 hours a day since SP is on so frequently and it would overwrite a new, First-Run episode with a repeat, unless you have it set to keep all recordings.

There is another setting once you go into "Record Settings with Options" and that is the setting for "Duplicates." As long as that is set to "No" you will not get a recording of an episode that is already on your DVR. If it is set to "Yes" you could have multiple recordings of the same episode on your DVR.

Not really.   It will record an episode that is new to that channel.  If your series options are set to record on any channel, it will record any episode that is new to every channel which carries that show.

Not really.   It will record an episode that is new to that channel.  If your series options are set to record on any channel, it will record any episode that is new to every channel which carries that show.


Actually it will record any show that the GUIDE provider has marked as new.  May or may not be accurate when you are talking about different channels.
