Recording on DVR-Set-top box "on" or "off" ?

HI !  New to this forum !!   Just got a DVR and I have a question.  When setting up a recording for a time when you will not be at home --- Do you need to leave the set-top box in the "on" position for the recording to take place ?  Usually when I shut down the TV the box turns off too --- although I still see the clock at all times.

Just wondering .... Hope someone can help.

Thanks !!!

Either on or off  is ok. The box is never completely off if it's plugged in.

As GaryDoug said, you can turn it off or leave it on, it will record either way. But turning the DVR off saves only a tiny bit of electricity, most of the circuitry and the hard drive are still powered up and running. If you want, you can separate the remote's power on/off control of the TV and DVR (or any STB) so that only one device is controlled at a time; here is a link to the instruction booklets for the various Verizon remote controls, you can find the instructions to separate the power functions in the booklet for the particular remote you have:

Of course a lot of people want to turn both devices on and off at the same time. I have chosen not to, mostly because it only worked erratically, the remote had to be aimed just right to control both the DVR and TV with one button push, and if they got out of sequence it was a pain to get them back in, so I just found it easier to turn the TV on and off and leave the DVR on. YMMV.
