I have no idea why, but occasionally I will get that same message. If I wait a few hours it will usually then work, I don't think I have ever had it fail for three days in a row. I never turn my DVR off, and it really isn't "off" anyway, so that is not the problem, and when I check to make sure the DVR is "online" with an IP address it always is. I am guessing that perhaps there is an overloaded server at times, or an occasional routing problem, that triggers this, because it is erratic and always comes back later. And it seemsVerizon has a pretty short "time out" for contacting the DVR.
And yes, I was just able to access my DVR from the website.
