Remote DVR

I am a new Fios TV subscriber (have Fios Internet 2 years now).  The ONT is connected to my own router via Ethernet.  The FIOS tecnician said I need the Actiontec router for the TV service.  I reconfigured the Actiontec router with my own IP subnet and connected it to my existing router using one of the LAN port (Bridging).  The technician connected a coax cable to the Actiontec router.  If it matters I am using 10.10.1.x/24 for my subnet.  I have one multi-room DVR and two standard receivers all which have full functionality.

I signed up for remote DVR two days ago and the disclaimer said my Actiontec Router must be in the default configuration.  This morning I received a noticed from VZ indicating my Actiontec router needs to be factory reset.

Does the Actiontec Router need to be the Internet facing router for this to work?  How can I get remote DVR using my own Internet router?

Kudos!

You will need to use the provided fios router for the TV to work. But you can always setup a secondary router of the fios one if you want to use your own. But my router IP is 192.168.0.1. So I know you can use other IP schemes. But who knows it may need to be a 192.168.xxx.xxx address. Any home user is fine using that. The only reason you would need a 10.10.xxx.xxx address is if you are in a large scale network and need to subnet the crap out of your IP scheme.

I also tried to alter my aciontec to the subnet i used when i had comcast and my own router. I did this actually while the installer was there and had not yet activated the DVR. After i broke things he could not activate the dvr until I undid my misdeed. I suspect the DVR was pre-configured with either a static IP address or verizon had preregistered an IP and MAC pair. Something was hard wired somewhere.

All i did was concede defeat and reset my home net to the preconfigured 10.0.1.0/24 from my preferrred 192.168.0.0/24 and everything perked along nicely.

The DVR picks up 10.0.1.100 every time even though i see no dhcp reservation so it must be a static address. Actually I turned off dhcp on the actiontec anyway so it must be hard coded. I use my own dhcp server.

The actiontec's port forwarding setup is really goofy but does work fine. In fact I've seen no difference between it and my old Linksys router.

I am using the Actiontec router but does it need to be connected in place of my existing home router for remote DVR to work?  In other words, my existing router has the public IP address and the actiontec router has my private address.  Where does the Actiontec router need to sit in order for this to properly work?
