The tip of the day is on if you have screen saver on. Doesn't appear to be any way to eliminate it.
I leave the screen saver on since my tv doesn't always turn off when I use the Verizon remote, and MY TV is not obviously on or off except for a small red led which is not that obvious So I Leave the screen saver on, and tolerate the UGLY new way they display the Tip of the Day.

Ah, that explains it then. I rarely turn my DVRs or STBs off. And when I do, I always turn the box on before the TV, so I'd never see the screensaver.

Just got the new update for my older STB and absolutely hate it. Like I said I have the older Motorola HD box with the led clock on the front of it, so the first issue I always hated was I can't make the guide full screen on my HD tv. Everything is 16:9 but the guide comes up 4:3. And now with the new update they took even more screen real estate away with a big freaking ad on the bottom. Ridiculous. Let alone the ad is for Fios Quantum 50/25Mbps which is what I have. At least show an ad for something I don't have.

Our set top boxes were updated last night and implemented the banner ad at the bottom of the guide. After turning off Recommendations and Promotions and rebooting had no effect, I contacted Verizon. Two representatives had me repeat the same futile attempts to remove the banner ad, suggested they may eventually go away on their own, and were evasive as to whether or not the banner ad was intentional. Finally after 45 minutes with the second representative and insisting on an honest answer, she checked with her supervisor and said the banner ad cannot be removed. Remove the ads Verizon! The Favorites Guide is my personal space for stuff that is important to me, not what is important to Verizon. You can't sell more stuff by making your customers angry. And be fair to your lowliest employees. Give them the information they need to respond intelligently rather than training them to give stock evasive answers.

I agree, get rid of the advertisement banner currently displayed at the bottom of the program guide page. It is really annoying and a disincentive to buy additional services.

There is (or at least was) a way to remove the Tip of the Day. Just go through every menu option until you find it. It might even be a Widget. I forget now how I did it. I have other nightmarish issue with Verizon at the moment. Lost my DVR hard drive two weeks ago and today I just lost all my recordings for the past two weeks. Unlucky enought to have a system update last night and a power outage today. Trying to help multiple people with wierd DVR & STB issues. And I'm beyond frustrated with Netflix an Amazon video streaming. Time to break up these monopolies and separate ISPs from media & service content providers. The two cannot exist within a single company when the consumer has no choices except to abandon all internet service and/or medial consumption. Time to stop corporations from buying up all the little guys. The little guys are the only ones truly being inventive these days.

The red banner added to the channel guide is a DOWNGRADE in service. No way to remove it. Come on Verizon, we're already customers. this is not the place to advertise.

Just in case they decide to read these and respond to customer feedback- I'm also not a fan of the ads. I'm hopeful that so few people make purchases through them that they decide to drop them entirely.
Quick question- all the recommendations that show up when I'm viewing details for a DVR recording (the "More Like This" section)- can I turn that off? I've no interest in their recommendations, and I hate all that clutter on the screen.
