I've seen the "put tape over it" solution for this, but I think this option should be added to the STB.

Yeah, that thing is bright!

Would be nice to at least have an option to at least dim it down a bit.

When I had Comcast, same Moto cblbox, different firmware, the option for the STB display was, channel, time, off, so it can be done.

In off mode, it showed the channel number as you entered it on the remote, then went blank as it tuned in the channel requested.

The Moto box has a great IR rcvr.  I just put the cblbox behind my dresser, front facing UP.  The IR works and I don't need to see the box!

IMG 1.6.1 has the option to turn the display off when you power down the box.
