We just received a "new" HD DVR from Verizon because the HDMI port on our old one didn't work. Now this replacement box (which is NOT, I repeat NOT new) has a working HDMI portl, but we can't get it to record. It will record for only 5 seconds or so. Then the screen display freezes. Then after a few more seconds, the screen goes to black. There are 0 minutes recorded on this DVR, so it clearly isn't full.
Any thoughts?

It sounds like they gave you a DVR with a bad hard drive.
