Re: Samsung Smart TV FiOS App not working
Not applicable

I talked to a Verizon rep yesterday, and she said they sent out an internal email saying the Samsung Fios TV app was discontinued due to low usage by customers. She said the email also cited high maintenance costs as part of the decision.

We are switching to Time Warner Cable next week, which still has a Samsung TV app. Like most other major providers, it also supports the FXNow app (which for whatever reason, Verizon does not support).

And its 300 Mbps and 200 Mbps internet service is also much cheaper than anything Fios has.

I will look into switching providers as well. I purchased two Samsung TV's and was using the FIOS TV App and now I’m stuck!
This is totally unacceptable on Verizon’s part. They simply don’t care about their customers.

I am still wondering what they are doing. Verizon still seems to keep telling us different things. I did try to find a spot to publicly address this issue on Facebook, but couldn't seem to do it. I did write again in the message section

Could we maybe write a letter to both companies and string together what they have told us? They are losing out. I told them what kind of business they are losing, including mine. Maybe the only way is to go to the top simultaneously.

Thanks so much, folks. Each of you has been so helpful.

PS: By the way, I finally found Samsung's tv facebook page and I did place a comment there. I do encourage us to do the same as someone else has suggested. Maybe if they are inundated with many comments, something might be done?

Hi All,

I also called Verizon today and was told this verbatim (TSL VS. SSL) but I believe that the Verizon reps are all potentially mistaken and reading the same incorrect information internally (I of course could be wrong).  Over the last few months there have been a number of security issues with certain forms of SSL traffic, and as such many technology platforms have had to be upgraded to improve the security level at which their applications communicate.  It seems that this is the case with either Samsung or Verizon upgrading their platform and no longer supporting the old insecure SSL encryptions (SSLv3) and now requiring TLS (not TSL) encryption.  Unfortunately the rep I spoke with could not give an eta for the platforms to be upgraded to interoperate once again successfully.  They also could not confirm which side was not yet updated to support TLS so we're left not knowing which side to pressure (Samsung or Verizon).  However, since I was also told that Samsung had released an update that caused the Verizon app to no longer function, I am assuming it is Verizon who has to upgrade their side to support TLS at minimum for SSL encryption.

Their was a report on another thread NOT DIRECTLY ABOUT VERIZON, that Samsung smart TVs (2012 models) were having to make changes because of a switch from SSL to TLS.  The thread was about HBOgo and Samsung Tv's

I bought a Samsung TV from the list of TVs that support the Fios TV app.   We used the app for about 10 months with out any problems.   My kids when to watch TV and told me that they could not find the app any more.

I upgraded the TV software  to see if that was the problem but still the app is not avalible.

My Tv is  UN50EH5300

Thanks for any help

I know they killed the LG app, hadn't heard about Samsung though.

this completely sucks....we pay a premium for Verizon service and they have completely dropped the ball here. I believe they should donate set-top boxes to those of us experiencing this issue until delt with. Howabout an admin replying HERE explaining the real issue and answering the questions posed in this thread? if not, I'm seriously considering dropping verizon, sweeping this under the rug is insulting.

This is a peer to peer support forum. Verizon does not monitor it for technical issues.
