I have 2 Samsung LA45's i have had this problem also. After about 2 months both TV's dropped the hand shakes.
I spoke with FIOS tech real good help! He has tried everything including factory reset of the Motorola HD box. After going on a few forums one blames the other. It looks like it is either an issue with the Motorola HDTV box loosing communication. Fios says its the TV. There are many complaints out there but from my readings it does look like the Motorola box not communicating at times or dropping the hand shake. So far I have not found any fixes. Its been about two months no with both Samsung and FIOS.

The "Not Supported Mode" error for Samsung TV's means the format is not compatible with your TV. The fix is:
With the STB powered on, press POWER + SELECT + MENU (one at a time fairly quickly). This brings up a white menu (or if you have no picture still you can navigate this "User Settings" menu through the LED display on the STB. Basically, you're looking for the 4:3 override setting and HDMI output setting. Usually (depends on your model) Samsungs will display 720p/480p just fine and you won't get that Not Supported Mode message again.
The handshaking issue has been largely fixed by a Samsung firmware release. If your TV is still having the handshaking issue, the best thing to do is always turn the STB on before you turn the TV on. Most Samsung TV's detect active inputs when you power them on, so you should get a good handshake if you turn the STB on about 10 seconds before you turn the TV on. Otherwise, using component cables will solve the problem. There are no broadcasts yet in 1080p (although I'm sure with their bandwidth Verizon will be one of the first to offer it when the providers make it available). You may see a slightly smoother picture (which some people even prefer) with component but it is fully capable of 1080i/720p.

I have two Samsung HDTV's. One is a 2 1/2 year old DLP and one is a brand new Plasma. I had two 6416 DVR boxes, and never had this issue until I bought the plasma. My DLP never had this problem, not even once. I was very upset that I thought I was going to have to stop using my HDMI cable because the signal was failing every 5 hours (Or less). When I first got the TV, the signal was only lost every few days and it just got worse over the period of 3 weeks.
Well, I decided to MOVE my DVR that was hooked up to my DLP to see if it was only the one 6416 box.When I did that, my Plasma stopped losing the HDMI signal and my DLP started losing the signal every few days. I went ahead and upgraded the one box that was losing the signals to a 7416 DVR and I haven't had the problem since.
This IS NOT a Samsung issue. If it was a Samsung issue, the issue would be on all of their boxes and not just a few. Verizon saying it is a Samsung issue is an issue of laziness and poor troubleshooting. If you are having this problem, I would suggest trying to switch to a new box. Either one of the same model, or see if you can switch to a different model.
Right now, I am very happy that both of my Samsung TVs are working perfectly fine with the HDMI.
