This is a problem for me to... Just installed about 4 weeks ago. Welcome to hell!!!!
The excuse of "Program/network wasn't available"??? Get real. Even an old VCR will just record the snow.
I didn't know this was a big deal until I read these posts. Or I would have remembered the information you guys are listing here. Now I guess I will have to schedule redundant recordings for important shows I don't want to miss, maybe with my old VCR and antenna too....

It has happened to me several times as well. When it has happened, I noticed it would keep happening at least once or twice a week. The last few times this happened, I did a hard reboot of the stb and then it did not seem to happen again for weeks, so maybe the reboot is the solution to this, as well as numerable other issues.

the issue happens for a couple reasons. one is a glitch in verizon's firmware, and that is being updated right now. it's a slow roll so expect over the next couple months to get 1.8 software. the second reasons is if the program is unavailable or becomes unavailable during the time it is recording, it will do the same thing.

Hubrisnxs
Did Verizon finally admit the problem to you and told you it would be fixed in firmware 1.8?
Thanks

well a rep said that those were the two reasons, and that 1.8 was supposed to fix it. so how reliable that rep was.... well.......
take it with a grain of salt I guess, but that was the word I heard.

Ugh.
Just got FiOS installed yesterday, recorded my first show today, and taaadaaa... a problem already.
Like others have said, I hit play on a recorded show and it just goes right back to live tv. I had Cablevision for 10 years before yesterday, and while it did suck it many (MANY) ways, it never once did anything like this.
FiOS people... if you're listening... fixing this sometime soon would be nice.
- brand new FiOS customer who was hoping to no longer experience annoying crap like this.

Ok here's some more for the datalogging of failed recordings:
Thursday July 8, 2010 8pm ABC - "Wipeout" - 60 minutes
No play at all, just returns to live programming
Thursday July 22, 2010 8pm ABC - "Wipeout" - 60 minutes
Plays back entire 60 minutes but......
Plays with stutters and a 10 second black screen near the beginning
Status indication (pause box) shows 10 minutes left at start of program, and 0 minutes left after 10 minutes of playback.
Both dates were set to also record Fox (So You think You can Dance) at 9pm
