Sound distortion on DVR playback

Hi,

We recently upgraded to an HD DVR box instead of the regular HD set top box. Whenever we watch anything recorded by DVR, it appears that the sound channels are distorted or messed up. For example, in a recorded basketball game, the cheering of the crowd will be incredibly loud, but the announces will be nearly inaudible. This does not occur when watching anything live. It appears to occur on every channel and even for non-sports broadcasting. Oftentimes the "background sound" will be MUCH louder than the dialogue, making it very difficult to understand. From what we have seen, there does not appear to be any sound settings within the DVR menus that may be the cause of this issue.

We have a brand new Sharp 42" 1080p tv with no sound system outside of what is built into the tv. This issue only occurs during recorded shows and never live tv, HD channel or not.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated!!

There are sound options that can be modified in the box to alleviate this. Have you changed the Dynamic Range values to see if any work better than others?
