I use a Tivo and there is support for Switched Digital Video (SDV) using a Tuning Adapter! Does FIOS support SDV. Is a tuning adapter available through FIOS?

SDV is a way for Cablevision, Comcast, and other traditional coax cable companies to provide more channels than available bandwidth allows.

To the best of my knowledge Verizon does not and probably will not need to pursue SDV.  All your TiVo will need is a Verizon provided Cable Card.

Well, sorry they don't have the adapter, because THEY DON'T NEED IT IN FiOS-Land

FiOS has plenty of bandwidth to not have to play games with unwatched channels/services.

Thanks Nascar - I thought that the PPV would be enabled if there was a tuning adapter.

I hear TiVo wants to have OnDemand work at some point but not as of yet.

I can't go to TiVo since the wife and kids love the FiOS Multi Room.  I know TiVo has something like it but not the same.

I have had so so experiences with providers DVRs - glad you are happy with yours

the Multi Room Viewing in Tivo works - but it is on the slower side. I have not seen Verizon's though

how large a disk does the verizon dvr have?

160GB (about 20 hours HD) with no way to increase the available space.

The current hard drive is 160G.  Motorola decoder - the last 2 digits ot he model number are the size of hard drive divided by 10.  Hence a 6416 or 7216 has a 160G hard drive.

This allows about 20 hours of HD recording which is a bit skimpy IMO.  There are rumors of new DVR models (either from Mototola or another provider) but nothing official.  There have also been rumors that Verizon may enable the E-SATA port on hte 7216 in some future update, but that is strictlty unconfirmed as no provider supplies a Moto box that supports external drives.
