What is involved with switching my set top box that access the DVR contents on one DVR to access those on the other DVR I have?  Same models for the DVRs.

There is currently no way to do that from http://verizon.com/fiostvcentral so I would be able to do this for you along with any agent in tech support.  Feel free to private message me here on the forums.

By your answer am I to understand that there's a way to access DVR recordings from one DVR to another? I have three 7216's including one set up as HM-DVR and would LOVE to use this strategy as a Disk Multiplier. If you are able, and willing, to do this then please add me to the list! If I've misunderstood then please let me know. As it is, the DVR sharing feature is worthless in a multi-DVR environment...

Thanks!

I may have misunderstood the question initially...

No you are unable to go from DVR to DVR right now...it is a feature that has some consideration but that's all I know right now.  I thought he was asking if we are able to reassign the 'HUB' DVR to a different DVR.

To my fellow Captain:

As  read the original post, the OP has more than 1 DVRs as well as at least 1 non-DVR STB.  Only ONE of the DVRs can be set up as the Multi-Room (or Home Media) DVR.  The other(s) must be standalone.  The OP was asking how to switch the DVR that is configured as the MR-DVR, so that his/her NON-DVR STB(s) can access IT instead of the CURRENT MR-DVR.

I further believe (speculating here) that (s)he is trying to figure out a way to do this by oneself, so that you could simply re-assign which DVR is your MR-DVR whenever you want to switch what shows you can access from your other non-DVR STBs.  Unfortunately that is impossible.

You can have Verizon re-assign your DVRs so that a differnt one is the MR-DVR, but that will always take a call to tech support, and I'm pretty sure they'll get tired of reconfiguring your system if you do this every other day or so.

Bottom line:

(1) Only ONE DVR can be the MR-DVR (and it's the only one that can communicate with your PC and internet via the Home Media function and the Media Manager software.).

(2) Currently, only your NON-DVR STBs (either HD or SD) can communicate with and play recordings from the MR-DVR.

(3) Any other DVR you have, will be completely standalone and canNOT communicate with nor share recordings with any other STB, nor your computer nor the internet.

Yes, I am inquiring how to switch DVRs so that a different one becomes the Home Media DVR that shares its programming with the STBs that I have.   It would be a permanent one time switch.  It sounds like I have to call up tech support to do that (was hoping to avoid that as tech support for any company is usually a lengthy wait), but that it can be done?

Yes, you can switch which DVR is your MR-DVR, but YES is requires a call to Tech Support.

A quicker and easier option would be to simply physically switch the locations of the two DVRs yourself.  (Been there, done that) The system only knows which DVR is the MR-DVR by serial number.  It has no way of knowing where that DVR is located.  Granted, you would have a brief period during which you'd have the "wrong" recordings at each location, but presumably, as you work through watching and deleting them, that would only be a short-term inconvenience.
