TV Channels "Not Available"

Worst experience ever--I just got Fios TV, internet, phone installed today and a bunch of the channels that are part of my TV package are displaying the message "this channel is currently unavailable"--pretty basic channels too, like TBS, TNT, CNN, CNBC, etc. I spend over 90 minutes on Live Chat, get disconnected a bunch of times and generally get nowhere. Call up Verizon to speak to someone, he's nice, but has no help to offer, spent an hour talking with that guy only to have him basically tell me the tech who installed everything will call me tomorrow and set up a time to come out and fix this. But it's just ridiculous--I barely even have this and already it doesn't work. Regretting this purchase already. Not to mention my Wi-Fi router has had to be reset twice already when the internet died for inexplicable reasons. Overall a nightmare and I'm seriously contemplating just cancelling this all now.

Just wanted to update this thread, mark the issue as solved. A very nice and super competent installer/repairer (I think her name was Blake? I wish I could reccomend her/give her kudos to Verizon for handling the issue so well) came out today and figured out the problem--the original installer messed up and somehow crossed old Comcast wires with the new Fios wires resulting in really poor signals and many channels not being available. Glad to know that it's not an inherent problem with the Fios service, I guess I was just unlucky to have a not so good installer.

It is great that you came back and updated this thread with the solution, not everyone bothers to. Thanks!

That is an interesting issue with the old cable system cables, and in many respects not surprising. I had Charter Cable here before I got FiOS, and about a year before getting FiOS the TV reception had gotten so bad that I called Charter and they came out and replaced all of the coax in the house with RG6. Made a big difference in the picture, but still, with the unreliable nature of Charter's internet and TV service I jumped at the chance to get FiOS TV and internet. Verizon was able to reuse all of the existing coax, all they had to do was run new coax from the ONT to where the existing splitter was, replace the splitter, and run new coax from the splitter to the router. So I got lucky I guess....

And it is great that you say something good about the tech that came out to fix the problem. Again, not everyone bothers to do so. So thanks for that also!

You can/should mark the thread "solved" yourself, and it would help if you would do so. Go back to your original post and you should find an option to mark it solved.

Hope you enjoy FiOS, I have for over six years now.

I'm glad to hear that the problem is resolved.  Believe me, many of us have been there with issues regarding the installation.   Welcome to life in the world of corporate giants in the 21st century.  🙂  When my Fios was first installed, it was a pain in the butt.  The guys had to find an outlet in my house which is grounded and we had to get my super to pry off a board so they could get into the cross base to run the wires through.  That was an all day project and then the next day, I had to call to get another tech out because the wiring in my phone jack was messed up.  In the scheme of things, it's really just a part of life.  Then came the issues with my Oulook Express and In Home Agent which I actually didn't finally resolve until a couple of months ago due to lack of time.

I've had Fios for 2 years and for the most part, I've been satisfied with the product.  It's very reliable service and overall, I haven't had that many issues and whenever I have, they have always gotten resolved.  I've had techs out at my house to resolve these issues I had with getting my TV reception and each time it was due to a damaged wire.  I am definitely getting the maximum benefit out of what I am paying per month for this.

I don't think we know of anyone who actually enjoys calling the cable company.  lol

Word of advice: Stay away from Verizon Internet Security Suite powered by McAfee.  It's a cheap piece of junk which I learned eventually the hard way.  For a virus program, you're better off either buying the Norton package on your own by ordering it from Amazon or downloading some free virus programs which are just as effective: malwarebytes.com and avast.com.
