wile,

I'm been told 'flat out' by Verizon management that they have a contract with FYI Television and will not be switching guide data providers.  For the past 18 months, they've been telling me that they are working with that provider to try and improve their information.  Unfortunately, nothing has changed in that time.

I have no idea why they can't take the hit on the FYI contract, as the money lost there would be more than offset by the reduced churn, higher customer satisfaction, etc that a competant guide data solution (like Tribune) would provide.  It was suggested to me that someone, somewhere in management "laid down the law" or "set down their foot" and has ruled out switching providers.  I have no idea who is responsible, but to the uninformed like myself, it certainly sounds like there is an executive who is unwilling to admit their mistake.  That individual, whoever it is, is just hurting FiOS' reputation and causing unnecessary churn because of the problems it causes for the DVR.  Or so it seems to me.

I'm in complete agreement. I just switched to FIOS TV from DIRECTV. FIOS service seems great in all areas except the guide.  The guide is the PRIMARY interaction you have with the TV!!!  If that experience is difficult/miserable it makes FIOS miserable!!!  It doesn't matter what is on if you can't find/record what you want, when you want.

Verizon Reps better take notice.  WE HATE THE GUIDE!  You will lose customers over this. It is not a small issue.  I like the package/price I got from Verizon, but before my 30-days are up I will switch back to DIRECTV over this issue.

One more nail in the coffin:  I have the Home Media DVR.  I have HD, box is set to HD 16:9, but the guide is 4:3 size!?!  I can't find a way to change it to 16:9 so you can see more info.  Is it even possible???  You can't even see the name of the program that is on after the one currently showing.  What a joke...

The guide data is awful. Many shows have incomplete descriptions. Something like a Friday the 13th film that would include such description: "Group of teens at a campround are..."  Even when you go to the more details screen, you get the same cut off synopsis.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse or anything, but I thought this was pretty funny.  I went to FYI's website, and this is right on their front page.  I think those of us here would disagree...

FYI delivers daily, weekly, and monthly television listings to our clients in easy-to-read and easy-to-use formats. These custom and localized services are designed to meet individual client and subscriber programming interests and needs.

FYI's information technology systems offer its clients reliable, accurate, up-to-the-minute updates with quick turn-around times that will be unmatched by any other data source.

I would like to see a Reminder Options.  If it is there now, I missed it.  I came from Comcast and there was an option to be reminded when a show started and this guide does not have that option.

The Guide is still very bad, it basically makes the DVR service very unusable!  Try setting up a series recording on a favorite sports team for instance "Texas Tech" and you get EVERY college game in the world.  Many Many Many times program listings are totally incorrect.  The lack of information is ridiculous.

Also a very basic feature available on all other providers for years has been to select future shows and allow the box to change channels at the appropriate time to watch without recording.  The other problem of limited space on the recorder might be more tolerable if you would allow this.

These problems seem to be ongoing yet I'm not finding any comments as to whether VZ is working on these or just ignoring their customers????

I agree with all the others, it really doesn't matter how great your picture quality is if the most used item and interface to the quality is marred by the faulty guide!!

Another issue with the Guide is that it does not reflect when a program is a Repeat.
