TAMPA - All television stations in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area are planning to suspend their analog broadcast signals for three minutes today.

Station officials say it's a "soft test" to locate and offer help to people who haven't made plans for the conversion to digital broadcasting on Feb. 17.

From 6:30 to 6:33 p.m., analog viewers may see a message on their screens informing them about the upcoming DTV transition. There also will be telephone numbers to call for instructions.

All Tampa area stations will be fielding calls with live telephone banks.

"This is an effort to reach out to people who may not be aware that the analog signal will end," said Pete Nikiel, vice president of marketing at WTSP, Channel 10.

This will not effect Fios TV subscribers. This is just over the air antenna people, no one that uses a STB should not see any difference.

Yeah I probably should have added that in there.  There are FiOS subscribers who do not use a stb for every TV in all areas.  If you use a STB of any kind provided by verizon you will not be affected.  But if you stil use them old rabbit ears and tin foil the channel will be shut off for three minutes.
