Turn off Standard STB Display Clock

We have a Standard STB in our bedroom and I would like to turn off the clock display when its powered off.

How can I do this?

AFAIK there are only 2 option for the display - time or channel.  No ability to turn off display with power off.

Some people place a piece of black tape over the display to block the slight light the display emits.
