I just ordered an HD set top FIOS TV box without a DVR. The agent could not tell me which model would be sent and the possible model numbers he did provide don't match anything I could find on Verizon's site or these forums. What are the current models being sent out?
I am trying to plan ahead for furniture and cabling so I am ready when it arrives. Thanks

they all have the same connectors on the back. HDMI, component, coax, composite, optical audio. You can get a 7232, 7100, 7216 or a sisco model. a disabled dvr can be sent as well as a standard hd stb.

The only motorola (arris) one is QIP 7100-p2. The previous model that they may still send was the 7100p1 (usually just called a 7100). Don't let them give you any older model as they don't support mpeg-4 channels. Quantum services requires at least a VMS1100 (DVR) before you can get a non-dvr IPC1100.
I am not sure if they are still giving out Cisco models but the Non-dvr model is CISCO CHS 335

My unit arrived today, and it is a rather old looking Motoroloa 7261 1 . The fan noise really bothers me. It ramps up super high even when the unit has been off for a bit. I am a sound engineer so any noise is very noticeable to me, and this unit is about 5 times louder than any computer fans I have ever heard.
Do all the units have noisy fans? My old non HD box did not have a fan. I don't want a DVR, so it seems like without a hard drive, it shouldn't need a fan.
Also, what content uses mpeg-4 and does this unit support it?

I assume you meant 7216.
It is a DVR.
So DVR option may be disabled to make it a regular STB.
So that is why it has a fan.
But it shouldn't be that noisy.
I would try and contact support stating that the fan in your box is failing.

Yes, 7216. I'll contact Verizon and see if they can send me another one, but I read that a lot of people complain about the fans on that model, and there is no way to know which model they might send next. I did read something about if you subscribe to a channel that uses mpeg4, then Verizon would need to provide one of the newer model STB's.

Any box higher than a 6xxx will work with mpeg channels

OK, thanks. Fan is revving like crazy right now even though the box has been turned off for 6 hours and it isn't even warm in the room.

When 7216 boxes went bad that was sometimes the behavior. Also sometimes its not the fan but the Hard Drive (this model is a DVR) that is making the noise. For all their boxes there really is not OFF as long as they are plugged in.

It is definitely the fan, and the unit was also having trouble starting up, so Verizon is sending me a replacement.
