Because the hub office that serves your area is based in NYC.
Verizon is still too new at the TV game to have it down to a local level yet. They are regionalized. Most of the hub offices are located in the major metro area. In your case NYC. Eventually they will build it down to the local level, but it is likely to take several years. They seem to be making progress in that area but still have a long way to go.
