other theb verizon or there stores how can I buy the motorola dvr I currently own cisco but when I try to visit my local store the manger has told me I am unable to switch due to my area not being provision for motorola?

The simple answer is you can't.  The boxes are considered Verizon property - users only lease them.  If you find one on E-Bay or anywhere else, it is considered stolen and Verizon will not activate.  Without activation all you have is a box that does nothing and some wasted money.
