fios to pc tv card

I have a WinTV-HVR-1600 tv card in my xp computer. I recently got fios and had one tv set up to use with a two way splitter in case I activate a second tv later on. Can I connect  a cable from my pc tv card to the available splitter connection or do I have to use an adapter for the tv card?

Yes, you can.  There's no need to split the cable again.


Be aware that your WinTV-HVR-1600 tuner will only be able to tune the local channels (and music channels) on FiOS, as all other channels are encrypted.  If you have trouble finding the HD locals, tune to QAMs 71-74.

To directly tune and record encrypted cable channels like TNT, USA, SyFy, or ESPN with a computer, you would need a Windows 7 with an ATI OCUR tuner ($200-$250), plus one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo.

Thanks for the response. To end  (or lessen) my confusion, do I understand correctly that I do not need to use a fios 'adapter' before plugging into the tv card? I thought you needed a box or adapter. I ask this because Im having alittle trouble getting any stations to tune in on the tv card program.

No, you would not use the FiOS adapter.   You would go direct from the outlet to the ATSC/QAM digital TV input on the WinTV-HVR-1600.  You would then scan for channels.  The HD locals may be in the 71-75 range.

The WinTV-HVR-1600 can also record the analog output from a set-top box, but to do that, you would need to connect the set-top box to the s-video or composite video input, not the coax input.
