I want to relocate my FIOS Motorola qip6416-2 DVR to a well ventilated remote media rack and extend the Remote control, and associated infered sensor, (discretely) to the TV area. In the back of the DRV, there is a jack for a remote (external) IR sensor, but nothing seems to work. Is this an option, or is this another dead port that's physically present but electrically neutered? Yes, I've tried many RF-based IR extension products, they all all horrible delay to the already slow-in-reacting DVR -- which needs a complete performance overhaul as it is. Any ideas?

The jack on the STB is not active. I've used the Hot Link Pro IR extender. The IR receiver uses a coax cable to the IR transmitter, so if you have a spare from the TV to the AV rack you can use it. It's fairly easy to install and works great. The web link is www.hot-link.com. And no, I don't work for the company. I just think it's a good product that works well for me.
