question about home media dvr

Message 1 of 7

my family just signed up for verizon fios televison and we got the home media dvr.  i was just wondering how many tuners that it had and how many programs that i can record at the same time.  i thought that the guy said that it has 3 tuners so we could conceivably record 2 programs while watching another program that is not already taped.  if i wanted could i record 3 separate programs?

i just was wondering if someone could clear it up.

thanks

The Verizon DVRs have two tuners. You can record up to two programs at once, and watch either of them if you wish while they are recording, or you can watch a pre-recorded program while recording the two programs.

the guy you taked to is mistaken, or you misunderstood him

you can record 2 LIVE channels..... once you are recording 2 LIVE channels, that uses up BOTH tuners....

you can either A) watch something ALREADY recorded... watch one of the 2 LIVE channels... or watch a VOD... you can NOT watch a 3rd LIVE channel

Correction: You cannot watch VOD while two tuners are recording either. VOD needs a tuner.

It all depends on what box you have. When I first got Fios, I had a 7xxx series box and was able to record 2 shows and watch another live. I dont remember the exact series # just that it was a 7 series. However I had all kinds of sound and picture issues due inpart to the ongoing HDMI issues and they brought me out a 6416-2. Once I got the 6416, my viewing options were as you have listed.

I do not understand how you could have done that. Here is a link to a Verizon web page listing all of the Verizon FiOS STBs, with links to the User Guide for each type of STB: Link

From the QIP7216 User Guide:

"Simultaneously Watch Two Programs. Watch two programs and easily switch between them using the swap key on your remote control. (Dependent upon program guide support and provided remote control.)

Simultaneous Watch and Record. Record one program in the background while viewing another live broadcast at the same time.

Simultaneously Record Two Shows. Record two programs from two different channels at the same time.

Simultaneously Record Two Shows and Watch a Recorded Program. Watch a program recorded on your DVR while recording up to two other programs at the same time. You can also easily switch from viewing the pre-recorded program and either of the programs you’re recording."

You just cannot do what you said.
