Retiredme, I appreciate the info, but with all due respect I am paying a lot of money for the Verizon servive and shouldn't have to spend my time online trying to fix their problems, not to mention time spend on the phone. I am extremely fustrated with this, and the help I get form tech service is to "unplug the box, wait 20 seconds, plug it back in".
Also, when I signed up they did not tell me I had to have one of their STB's for every TV. I have 2 TV's that I used to have cable plugged into that I now have to use rabbit ears...I've read all the stuff about QAM tuners and it does me no good. I have to pay more money now just to get back to what I had before Verizon.

OKAY, now what...
SPent time this weekend chanign cable to go from HDMI to Component Video. (never easy to get at al lthe cables of course) Turned off everything, unplyggedn everything, plugged everything in, and turned it on.
STILL "Currently Unavailable" on HDTV (HD< DVR box) (23,24,470,471 ande 523 --> all PBS and 513 (CW-HD)) I cannot think that it is all coincidence that all the PBS channels (WCVE Richmond) give me problems SD and HD.
Signals are fine on SD TV, which has no DVR.
ANy new suggestions? I agree with the poster that said I do not pay this morey to do the troubleshooting, but they are useless.

All of our coax is from the verizon fios install, so no old coax here. I also notice we seem to miss the surround sound lately goes off, comes on etc, never did that before this new install. Wonder if this is related to internet going down all the time, have to reboot the router almost daily sometimes twice. Anyone else?

Jat454, I understand your frustration and am experiencing the same "CurrentlyUnavailable" problem myself. I personally do a hard reboot on the 7216 DVR every Mon/Wed/Fri and it seems to keep things working. The other work around you might try is to use component cables(red/green/blue RCA jacks) until a software change fixes the problem. Just FYI, this HDMI Handshake protocol problem is not unique to FIOS, but the Motorola boxes do seem particularly susceptible. It is always your choice as a consumer how you wish to proceed. Best of luck. Thank you.

i found a (temporary) fix, when it says currently unavailable, hit the record key, this has worked like 9 out of 9 times...

I have lived with this since my install in late January. Am using the "cold reboot" every two days since reading this.
I just got off live chat about this problem, he verified the issue was caused by the last software release, and was told a software update in my area is scheduled for 4-14-09 in my area to resolve this. (I am in greater L.A. area) I have the Motorola QIP7216 DVR

Iteresting to me is the channels it happens on for me.
ALL PBS channels - SD or HD plus 512 CW HD in RIchmond.
It does seem that the "Currently Unavailable" problem has diminished lately and been repleased with terrible pixialation problems on those same channels.
