Verizon Agent in Lutz, FL. Walmart today told me that Quantum TV service is available now.
I called to get the service and was told not available yet. They said it was supposed to be available in late April, but did not know when it would come out yet. Does anyone know what the schedule is for the 813-949-xxxx exchange? Also, what equipment is supplied and will Verizon upgrade the sorry-old router that they make me use today?
Regards,
Steve

It's a freeze and hold game. It happens in the tech industry regularly. Announce something new that people want and freeze people from switching to competitors while they wait for the new feature. Funny thing happens they refuse to provide a schedule of release of the product. When you ask they stonewall and say we don't know. Reality is they don't have the feature at all.if they did they would share a schedule,
You should consider changing to some cable co that is delivering multiple record capability in you area. Fios should step up and detail the rollout then stick to it. The fact that they stonewall when asked just tells you they don't have it!

As a long-term Verizon FiOS customer maybe I can address at least a few of the questions and issues raised in this thread.
1) FiOS Quantum TV service is currently available, but only in a few areas - my understanding is that right now people in certain zip codes in North Texas, Philadelphia, PA area, and Pittsuburg, PA area can order VMS. No where else at this time as far as I know. I believe they are treating this initial rollout as an extended Beta test since it is so different from the existing FiOS setup.
2) I am in North Texas and I have VMS: 1 server, 2 clients. I have had it since early April, and I know for sure there are other customers here that also have VMS. So it is a real Verizon product, it does exist, and it is coming to the entire FiOS footprint, probably over the next 2 to 4 months (just my guess). But I bet there will be a limited supply of the hardware so not everyone who wants to order one will be able to get it that soon (just my guess).
3) VMS works well, although there are a few small bugs that I have found. I am hoping these will be fixed later this month.
4) Verizon generally rolls out new products and new software gradually, a VHO or so at a time. I think they do this to make sure that their support structure can handle the volume of calls if there are bugs or if customers don't understand some new functions, etc., and to give their staff time to get up to speed on the new stuff. I think this makes sense; I was in the computer business for 37 years and I guarantee it is easier to manage a rollout of new hardware and software if it is staged and not rolled out to everybody at once (In this case I think Verizon has about 5 million FiOS TV customers, think what would happen if they made it available to everyone at the same time - total chaos!!!!).
5) Verizon I think learned the hard way not to pre-announce schedules. They tried that back near the beginning of FiOS and it backfired on them, they had some serious product problems that required a delay in the schedule and they were crucified on a number of forums about the delay. While I understand the desire to know when a product will be available in a specific area (I felt the same way as I was very eager to get a VMS system), but I really believe Verizon and their customers are all better off with no published schedule.
So there you are: I have Verizon Quantum FiOS TV, I am happy with it, and you all will get a chance to order it in the not too distant future.
Questions? I will be happy to try to answer them.

I pay enough for the WH DVR. I have had it for 2 years. Why aren't they just updating the WH DVR with this Quantum DVR? I think it's because they can. If nobody pays them more money it will eventually be free and you will get it anyway. I for one refuse to pay more for it.

Why does anyone want to pay more? So we can record more then 2 shows at once. When you live with several people in the house, this is a must have option imo.
Why arent they just upgrading the whole house dvr with the media server for free? Because believe it or not, it would cost them money to do that. Also, if they were to do so, what do they do with all of those old dvrs?
Every cable company these days is raising fees on dvr's and re-structuring their rates. They will never be free.
If you don't like it, then simply don't get one or pay for service. No one forces anyone to have cable.

I know the post is a month old and things might have changed, but I can get the media server in Port Richey.
