Forcing customers to sign-up for paperless billing, what a hassle!

VERIZON, thanks for wasting OUR time just so you can get more personal information out of us!  JERKS!!  No concern for the customer here.  Can't just pay my bill on-line and be done with it,...NO, I am automatically, almost.... (forced to really)... sign-up for paperless billing so it makes it easer for you to {word filter avoidance} me over, or I can't pay on-line.  Then I have to figure out how to cancel the the "so called service".  But then, YOU already know that 'cause you're the BIG CORP. who cares less about customer service just about getting your money + info and making the customer jump through hoops, congratulations.!  It doesn't matter if we have been long time customers who have always paid our bill!  YOU SUCK BIG TIME!Smiley Mad

Site would not let me give you a thumbs-up.  Verizon's forcing us to opt OUT of this paperless bill is outrageous.  How about the $1.98 "property tax" charge?  What other company is allowed to pull this crap, putting taxes for the corporation in the section as if it were a government fee for OUR line.

Verizon-Two strikes.  Comcast-here we come!  Or OOMA.

If Verizon monitors this site (I doubt they do-costs more than a penny!), Verizzon should respond to this.  Customers are not all stupid.

I agree that it is completely unfair that if we want to pay our bill online we will no longer be sent a paper statement.  WE SHOULD NOT BE PENALIZED BY NOT BEING ALLOWED TO PAY OUR BILL ONLINE, IF WE WANT TO RECEIVE OUR BILL IN THE MAIL.  This is Verizon's way of forcing us to save them money while inconveniencing their customers!  Other companies will allow you to receive your bill by mail AND pay it online.  Thank you taffy, for expressing what many of us feel.

And while I'm at it, here's why Comcast is better:

Comcast provides phone number blocking service FREE.  Verizon charges $10 for this privilege.

Verizon HD boxes don't have clocks on them, Comcast boxes do.  I have 5 boxes.  Now I have to put a clock in 5 rooms.  RIDICULOUS!

They don't let you see if the email address you want is available before you go with their service.

Comcast will send you a paper bill AND ALLOW YOU TO PAY YOUR BILL ONLINE!

I realize these may seem like small inconveniences but considering that I haven't noticed any better speed on the internet, and no better programming on their TV service, I feel like I gave up some things I liked when I left Comcast.  I will go back to Comcast when my discounts expire in a year.

AND, when I tried to email Verizon with my complaint, it gives me a pop up box asking for my zip code.  When I provide my zip code it takes me back to the original screen, where when I click on email again, it gives me same zip code pop up box and takes me back to the original screen.  So really, THERE IS NO OPTION TO SEND THEM AN EMAIL.  But instead of saying that, they send you in an endless loop.

And, they also would not let me "like" the original complaint.  Again, very tricky!  They would probably have a bunch of people liking that post, but they won't allow it!  Clearly they don't care whether they have happy customers or not.

I'm going to disagree on all of these points.  Either a piece of information is missing from this so it's not the whole story or something is being misnterpreted or exaggerated.  That's my opinion and I'll tell you why on 4 points mentioned here:

(1) I have never been forced to switch to paperless billing.  Exactly how are you being forced, through a website?  I still receive paper bills in the mail and pay them through the mail the old way.  The most I have ever gotten, I believe, is just an email encouraging me to switch to paperless billing and I would delete it.

(2) I'm also not understanding how asking for your zip code is asking for personal information.

(3) Every month I read my bills in detail from top to bottom and I have never seen or heard of a $1.98 property tax.  Are you sure you're not misreading something?

(4) All the set top boxes can display the time but you have to make sure you pick the right option to do so.  Otherwise it will just display the channel you left your TV on.  If you go through the menu options on your TV, you should be able to resolve that.

And my only other point now is that it's Sunday.

You are indeed out of the loop since you use snail mail to pay your bill. If you pay online Verizon is now forcing you into a "paperless billing trial" when you hit the "submit payment" button online. Then you have to waste your time ( I don't know about yours, but my time is very valuable to me) finding the right account page to then opt out of the trial you were just forced into.

Then call their billing department instead of taking this out on me.  If you took a little more time to explain the details of what you're talking about, I might have more of a fighting chance of following your story a little better.  I don't pretend to understand things when I don't and no, I do not pay any bills on line but I have had experience with plenty of Internet issues and I am very computer literate.  I don't appreciate your comment about me being out of the loop.  My point is that if I can still pay my Verizon bill the old fashioned way and still receive the same paper statements in the mail, why would be excluded from doing that just because you want to pay on line?  To be very honest, it sounds like some glitch in the system that I'll bet a tech person from Internet support or billing could help you resolve.  Why would this be some deliberate attempt on someone's part to force you into paperless billing?  I honestly don't believe that and I have had a lot of life experience to know better.  Don't you think you're taking this a little too personally?  I seriously doubt you are being forced into this paperless billing trial because that doesn't make any sense.

So pick up the phone and call if you want to do something about it.  It's also possible to do a shared session with someone from tech support who is able to see the setup on your computer and change the settings appropriately to resolve your issue.  I've done that many times and if that's presented to you as a way of resolving the problem, I suggest you take advantage of that.

Life is very stressful and it's full of temporary inconveniences for everyone but this is nothing to get so worked up about.  My time is valuable too.

By the way, if you read Justin's comment on this below, he pays his bills on line and can still get paper statements.  Just pick up the phone and get all of your facts straight and find out what's going on first.  And if it takes some time to resolve, so be it.

FWIW, I Just paid my Verizon bill via the website, and there was absolutely no requirement to sign up for paperless billing. I have no clue why the website would do that to some users and not others, but I get a paper bill every month and have been paying successfully via the website for several years. Yes I continually get suggestions to go paperless, but never any "forcing" to do so.

It sounds like some glitch in the system that this other user is describing.  I'm not even sure that it's legal for a company to force customers out of getting paper statements and my only point was that if I can still pay my bills the old fashioned way through the mail while receiving a paper statement, then why would someone paying on line be excluded from that?  I can even print a copy of my paper statement if I want to.
