Is this how Verizon rewards a long time customer?

My FIOS  Double Play internet/phone bundle recently expired. I had originally signed a 2 year agreement. Months 1-6 were at $29.99. Months 7-24 were at 39.99. There was a promotion going on at the time, plus I was given a customer loyalty discount. This is for the 15/5 internet and residential phone service.

When my contract was complete, the price went up to 79.99 per month. I called to inquire about what was available and got a hard sell to add TV to my bundle. I politely declined and stated I'd like a deal on my current services since the price went up by $40. I checked online to find that for only $84.99 per month, I can renew my agreement for 2  years or pay 89.99 with no agreement. Why should I be punished for renewing? And to add insult to injury have a CS rep try to convince me that this was a good deal.

What gives? What happened to customer loyalty? I have been a Verizon customer for decades. Is there any way for me to speak to someone in customer loyalty/retention? Or is it a waste of time? Trying to get information is like pulling teeth.

Thanks for listening.

By renewing your contract, you can not only keep your rates down (along with discounts if you do it on line) but you can also get rewarded with a Verizon Rewards Card.  I did that and received a $200 rewards card and that's extra money in your pocket that you can spend on anything you want.  If you don't renew your contract, your rates can go up on a month to month basis.  It's not punishment to renew your contract and if anything, renewing your contract can also include upgrades so you can get even more for your money.

Verizon also includes a lot of TV stations that the cable companies would charge extra to receive.

You're never going to find a deal like that with cable.

Maybe it's just me, but the way I see it, my bill went up $40 month since my promotion expired, so I'm paying 79.99. Now to entice me to sign another contract, they raise the price by $5 month or if I don't sign a contract, they raise the price by $10 month. So for my decades as a customer, I can pay $84.99 or $89.99 a month for the same service that I was paying $39.99 a month.

Please explain to me how that is a good deal and why I should be happy about it.

I guess it's safe to say that Verizon no longer offers any type of customer loyalty program or discount. After 40+ years of being a customer, to say that I am disappointed is putting it mildly. They don't care if you walk out the door. It's odd that a business wouldn't try to keep their existing customers since it's generally more costly to attract new ones. But sadly for us, that's the way it is.

Robert you're missing the point here. A "promotional" price is exactly that. A promotion. It's not a standard fee just because you've been with them for so long. When you signed up you knew how much you'd pay for 2 years then it would go up. New customers get the best rates. Current still get bonuses which no other cable company does. Even by resigning you still arent paying full price.

EVERY company goes up once the terms are up. I dont care who you are with. They cant just say oh ok we'll give you the special price again for everyone who calls.

They have no obligation once your terms are up. its worth trying, but they don't have to do anything.

They also have tons of people singing up everyday so loosing a customer here and there isnt going to hurt them. When 1 is lost they gain a lot more per day.

It's all business and numbers. If you're not happy just simply go elsewhere.

When I originally switched over from Bright House they didnt offer me any kind of renewal. I came to Verizon. 2 years later I was offered a $400 card. I took it. Once my contract is up again I will either take what they offer and go elsewhere for at least 6 months then maybe switch back and get new customer prices again.

I am now paying 79.99 out of contract. If I sign a contract again, I will pay more. Again, please tell me what sense this makes. The problem is there isn't enough competition and these companies rest on their laurels. When Verizon was trying to break into the market in MA they gave you everything including the kitchen sink to sigh up since Comcast owned the state. As soon as they get a toe hod, it's stick it too the customer again. It's like buying a car. And they wonder why they  have the reputation that they do.

I too am a long time customer in the second year of a 2 year contract I renewed last year.  A $25 per month "loyalty discount" just expired and Verizon is doing NOTHING for me.  I tried a Live Chat and it was useless (per usual).  I then called and was told there were no discounts or promotions.  BEWARE - if at the time of renewal if  Verizon offers a one year "loyalty discount" to get you to renew for 2 years with the understanding that after one year they will extend the "loyalty discount" there is no guarantee the "loyalty discount" will be extended for a 2nd year.
