I signed up for the Verizon Your Domain service today, hoping to continue access to our verizon.net email address even though we must disconnect our Verizon service as we are moving. However, after signing up for the new service, there appears to be no way to link our verizon.net email address to the domain I just set up. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not aware of a way to keep an @verizon.net email address, if you do not have Verizon Fios/DSL/dialup services....
the "yourdomain" is certainly not a way to do so....
Chalk this up as a learning experience... Don't use your ISP's email, as you never know when you may move and not have access to that ISP..... Try getting/using a Gmail or Hotmail or yahoo email address for personaly purposes... and if for business, something like the "yourdomain" should work fine.
